COUPLES are spending less on getting married during the recesssion - but their wedding guests are still forking out a small fortune Research out today shows that the average spend on a wedding is now pounds 15,261, down pounds 5,000 from last year.

But friends shell out around pounds 361 for the hen or stag do, the present and attending the big day. They also attend an average of three weddings a year, taking the total annual cost to more than pounds 1,000.

The poll of 4,000 people was commissioned by the Living TV channel to coincide with its reality wedding series which starts tonight.
