For fans of food.

PLANS for a new food festival have been unveiled.

Eat! 08 is will take place on both sides of the river Tyne Tyne (tīn), river, c.62 mi (100 km) long, NE England, formed near Hexham, Northumberland, by the confluence of the North Tyne (33 mi/53 km long; rising in SW Cheviot Hills) and the South Tyne (32 mi/52 km long; rising in the N Pennines).  for 19 days in May.

Top treats on the menu include a secret restaurant, in town for five days only, a restaurant in total darkness to really test the tastebuds, markets selling local produce and a Miche-lin-starred feast.

There will also be street parties, urban picnics, rare foods, cooking demonstrations, and a variety of talks.

Organisers hope this year's event will build on the success of last year's pilot Eat! event which ran for nine days in April.
