WIGAN Wigan (wĭg`ən), city (1991 pop. 88,725) and metropolitan district, N England, located in the Manchester metropolitan area on the Douglas River.  boss Steve Bruce is ready to sign Ecuador striker Cristian Benitez - even with a broken leg - as he plans to avoid a crisis.

Bruce has sent chief executive Brenda Spencer and general manager John Benson to Mexico for talks with Benitez's club Santos Laguna Club Santos Laguna, also known as Santos Laguna or Santos, is a Mexican professional football club. They represent la Comarca Lagunera which is made of Torreon, Gomez Palacio and Lerdo. Santos Laguna plays in the Primera División de México.  to see if they can broker a deal in the window.

The pounds 8m-rated Benitez is Bruce's firstchoice signing for the New Year and the Latics chief - resigned to losing Emile Heskey - also hopes to agree a price for pounds 4m-rated Colombian forward Hugo Rodallega Martinez, who plays with another Mexican club - Necaxa.
