All through his outstanding career as a real life Roy of the Rovers Roy of the Rovers is a British comic strip about the life and exploits of a fictional footballer named Roy Race which has run in various publications since 1954. he was a Liverpool fan -- and still is! ``It may sound strange, '' he says ``but when I was a small boy they weren't only the outstanding team in this country, they were best in Europe as well and it was impossible not to admire them. ``I wasn't an avid supporter who couldn't bear missing a match, but if people asked me I used to say I was a Liverpool fan, because they had so many class players. ``Throughout the 70s and 80s they had some of the best strikers in the world, and if I was being honest I tried to model myself on Ian Rush. '' It was a source of regret to Bull that, in spite of his goals coring exploits, Liverpool never came in to sign him throughout his career. ``As far as know, '' he admitted ``only four teams ever came in and tried to sign me from Wolves -- and none were Liverpool. ``There was Torino first of all, then Newcastle before Andy Cole went there, Coventry City and finally Celtic. ``I was always very happy at Wolves, but if Liverpool had ever come in for me, well who knows . . ? I'm sure would probably have jumped at the chance. '' Like most Reds, ardent or otherwise, Bull has been pleased at the change of style introduced at Anfield under Rafael Benitez. ``He has brought in some class players and they are very good to watch this season, '' he said. ``I'm not that committed a fan that I look out for their results every weekend, but it's good to see them playing so well. ``I always remember them as the best side in Europe and it would be nice to see them back up there again.
