Football Echo: YOUR SHOUT: Shorts: Benitez must recruit more new blood to turn Reds into challengers.

THE REDS are continuing to make more progress, and I am sure will make the Champions League again next season, but I don't think we will win anything this year.

We need to replaceKewell with someone world class, and Rafa needs to recruit a proven goals corer and an experienced midfielder
For the Australian Rules position, see Midfielder (Australian Rules).

In association football, a midfielder is a player whose position of play is midway between the attacking strikers and the defenders (highlighted in blue on the diagram).

It will take at least 18 months to develop into true consistent challengers for the title.

NEIL MELLOR Neil Andrew Mellor (born November 4, 1982 in Sheffield, England) is a professional football player with Preston North End FC. He made his name in 2004 by scoring a last-minute goal to give Liverpool a 2-1 victory over Arsenal at Anfield.  (pictured left) proved against Millwall on Tuesday that he is a very good forward. He just needs the confidence to shout for the ball -- demand it even -- and he will score!

LET'S hope Rovers can get back to winning ways this afternoon.

Bradford have been a major surprise this season -- I didn't expect them to be major challengers -- so their clash with Luton this afternoon will be interesting.

The Bantams had money problems during the summer and had to sell, but they now seem to have a good mix of youngsters and ex-Premiership players and could be a good play-off bet.

Adam, Ellesmere Port Ellesmere Port, town and district (1991 pop. 78,800), Cheshire, W central England. Ellesmere Port, located on the Manchester Ship Canal near its junction with the Shropshire Union Canal and the entrance into the Mersey estuary, is the principal town of the district.

WE need to start winning again but I'm sure we will be there or thereabouts in May, something I don't think can be said about some of the teams in the top six.

Bradford are an exception, but I think they will be challenging for an automatic promotion place, rather than a spot in the play-offs. Lee T, Birkenhead
