Football Echo: Try's the Limit: Aussies may profit from Lockyer injury.

Byline: with JOHN LAWLESS

THE INJURY sustained by Australia skipper Darren Lockyer could prove to be a blessing for the world champions.

That may sound like a strange thing to say. Lockyer is arguably the best player in the world and one of the few players about whom it is rare to hear a word of criticism.

His performance in his side's victory over New Zealand New Zealand (zē`lənd), island country (2005 est. pop. 4,035,000), 104,454 sq mi (270,534 sq km), in the S Pacific Ocean, over 1,000 mi (1,600 km) SE of Australia. The capital is Wellington; the largest city and leading port is Auckland.  last Saturday, when he picked up his rib injury, was outstanding.

However, with Lockyer missing tonight's match against Great Britain Great Britain, officially United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, constitutional monarchy (2005 est. pop. 60,441,000), 94,226 sq mi (244,044 sq km), on the British Isles, off W Europe. The country is often referred to simply as Britain.  in Manchester, Brett Kimmorley arrives centre stage.

Kimmorley comes in at scrum-half with Craig Gower moving to take Lockyer's number six jersey.

Kimmorley ran the show as the Anzacs hammered Cumbria 64-12 on Wednesday night.

That should come as little surprise to British fans.

Whenever the Cronulla Sharks The Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks are an Australian professional rugby league team based in Cronulla in the Sutherland Shire, south of Sydney. They compete in the National Rugby League (NRL), Australasia's premier rugby league competition.  halfback has pulled on a jersey in this country he has excelled.

He was seen as the major difference between the two sides as Australia achieved a 3-0 whitewash whitewash, white fluid commonly used as an inexpensive, impermanent coating for walls, fences, stables, and other exterior structures. It varies in composition, being generally a mixture of lime (quicklime), water, flour, salt, glue, and whiting, with other  over Great Britain in last year's Ashes series.

Gower has been getting the nod as the starting scrum-half role for the Aussies.

But another top performance tonight from Kimmorley could see him link up with a returning Lockyer for the rest of the Tri-Nations.

And that spells trouble with a capital T.

n WARRINGTON Wolves have announced their schedule of pre-season friendlies at Halliwell Jones Stadium.

They start with the traditional Boxing Day clash with Widnes Vikings (ko 3pm).

Other matches: January 2, v Barrow (3pm); January 16, v Whitehaven (3pm); January 30, v Salford (3pm).
