Fotheringham's time at Dens Park has been plagued by inconsistency since signing for his hometown team from Celtic just over a year ago.

Duffy's patience finally snapped when the Scotland Under-21 star was stupidly sent off against Aberdeen in a league match at Pittodrie earlier this season. But Fotheringham has since been working on recapturing the sort of form that earned him a dream move to Parkhead straight from school.

Duffy said: 'It wasn't so much a discussion because Mark had to listen.

'There were certain things that weren't evident in his game that needed to be.

'But he was much more like himself against Celtic last week and now he has to build on that.'
