MICK McCARTHY Michael Joseph "Mick" McCarthy (b. February 7 1959, Barnsley, England) is an English-born Irish former professional footballer, who is currently the manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.  has demanded his Sunderland stars forget about aiming for a fourth bottom Premiership finish...and told them to go for fourth TOP.

The Sunderland boss believes in the power of positive thinking and doesn't want a relegation scrap mentality when they kick-off against Charlton next week.

McCarthy said: "Fourth bottom? That's a great target to set for everyone that one. Let's set fourth from top shall we."

The Wearsiders are 4/6 favourites for the drop along with West Ham and Wigan Wigan (wĭg`ən), city (1991 pop. 88,725) and metropolitan district, N England, located in the Manchester metropolitan area on the Douglas River. , but McCarthy insists that Sunderland have been right to be cautious in the transfer market with a host of bargain signings arriving including Alan Stubbs and Jon Stead.

He says West Brom, who avoided the drop last season without breaking the bank, are an inspiration.
