Football: Llandudno stung by wily Ruthin in promotion blow; CYMRU ALLIANCE.

Llandudno 0

Ruthin Town 2

LEADERS Llandudno failed to perform as fifth-from-bottom Ruthin put a major spanner in their promotion plans.

After a blank first half dictated by a swirling wind and heavy pitch, Llandudno's first shot on goal wasn't until the 56th minute and then Deiniol Graham was well wide.

Ruthin went ahead on 72 minutes when Mark Entswhistle cut in from the left before hammering a shot across keeper Sion Powell into the far corner.

Penrhyncoch 0

Holywell Town 2

LOWLY Holywell boosted hopes of escaping the drop with a battling victory at Penrhyn.

Dave Nottage gave the Wellmen a first-half lead when he lashed the ball into the net after home keeper Toby Spain had failed to deal with a cross.

Marc Gornall twice went close for Penrhyn, but the visitors wrapped up the points when Dale Lovatt rounded of a fine debut four minutes from time when latching onto a rebound after a free-kick had spun off the post.

Bala Town 5

Halkyn United 1

BASEMENT side Halkyn slipped deeper into relegation danger as Mark Griffiths netted twice in Bala's five-star display.

A solitary strike from Griffiths separated the sides at the interval, but Bala cut loose after the break with four more goals to boost their hopes of a top-six finish.

Griffiths bagged his second of the game after the interval while Llion Roberts, Steve Fisher and Owain Roberts made up the nap hand.

LEX maintained their upturn in fortunes after edging out their mid-table rivals, courtesy of two second-half goals from Gary Penlington.

Following a goalless first-half, the Stansty Park men took a 48th-minute lead through Penlington after some fine play by Warren Duckett.

Calvin Owen soon levelled for the visitors, but Penlington settled an evenly-poised affair by snatching a 75th-minute winner with Mark Williams the provider.

Glantraeth 5

Llandyrnog United 0

GLANTRAETH returned to winning ways after two defeats the previous week by demolishing Llandyrnog.

United's Simon Hulse was red carded for handling, but the linesman intervened to report the offence took place after the ball crossed the line.

Glantraeth's scorers were Warren Gibbs, Craig Roberts (2), Rob Williams and Kevin Roberts. United's Gareth Martin was later dismissed for dissent.

HOLDERS Buckley Town stayed on course to retain the NE Wales Cup after seeing off Chirk in the semi-final at Rhos Aelwyd.

The Cymru Alliance title chasers were made to battle for their eighth consecutive place in the final - despite taking a 10th-minute lead when Mike Lewis netted.

Steve Birch put Chirk level, but Buckley restored their lead through Graham Randles' header before Breeze settled the issue.
