Football: Liverpool gaffer got it all wrong on the night.

Byline: TONY CASCARINO Anthony Guy ("Tony") Cascarino (born September 1, 1962 in St Paul's Cray, Orpington, Kent, England) made his name as a striker for various British and French football clubs and for the Republic of Ireland.

FRENCH football is nowhere near the standard it once was, which makes Marseille's performance at Anfield almost unbelievable.

In fact, because of what I know about the French game - I played for Marseille Marseille
 or Marseilles

City (pop., 1999: city, 797,486; metro. area, 1,349,772), southeastern France. One of the Mediterranean's major seaports and the second largest city in France, it is located on the Gulf of Lion, west of the French Riviera.
and Nancy - I was more surprised at Marseille's 1-0 win at Liverpool than Rangers' 3-0 win in Lyon.

Liverpool blew it big-time and now, rather than sail into the last 16, they are going to have to work hard to qualify and a lot of that is down to Rafael Benitez.

I still think Liverpool will qualify, but Benitez has to change his approach. Will he? I doubt it. He's stubborn stubborn Vox populi → medtalk Refractory; unresponsive to therapy  and will just manage in his own way.

As for the transformation in Marseille - that was almost impossible to comprehend.

Defensively they are rubbish and they don't score goals, yet at Anfield they looked a million dollars.

Or Liverpool made them look a million dollars. It's to be hoped Benitez doesn't live to rue that.
