The Chelsea midfielder was as disappointed as anyone at England's quarter-final elimination in Germany when there was belief in the squad they could achieve trophy glory.

The 28-year-old said: "I suppose we have got over the World Cup in some ways - but in other ways you haven't because I don't think you should lose that feeling.

"You shouldn't lose the disappointment of getting knocked out when maybe we could have gone further in the competition. We need to remember the things that didn't go well for us there so that we can put right.
