Michael W. Doyle (born 1948) is an international relations scholar whose most influential work is Empires, an analysis of imperialism.
 turned down Premiership clubs to stay with the Sky Blues.

Doyle, 25, was on Steve Bruce's shopping list and seemed set to leave Coventry after three years at the club. But Dowie persuaded him he shared the midfielder's ambitions - and last week Doyle signed a new four-year-deal.

Dowie said: "We had more than a few enquires, some from Premiership clubs, and shows how highly regarded Michael is.

"He has got Premiership energy, has been in the side whenever available, and was instrumental in the success we had when I arrived as manager.

"His ambition matches my own. Keeping him is a huge signing for us."
