Benitez dismissed the Chelsea manager's comments and pointed to the incident involving Eidur Gudjohnsen and Xabi Alonso that led to the Spaniard being awarded a yellow card and suspension from the second leg in the semi-final meeting between the teams in 2005.

The Reds boss said: "I don't know why he thinks this. Maybe because two years ago he did the same with Xabi Alonso and he has these things in his mind.

"If Drogba does a foul that is a yellow card, then it should be a yellow card. If it's a yellow card for any player, then give a yellow card. If it's a red, give a red."
