Football: BUTCHER AIMS TO BOLSTER.

MOTHERWELL boss Terry Butcher revealed today that he still wants to sign a central defender before the transfer window shuts on August 31.

The Fir Park boss, who takes his side to Rugby Park today, said: "We need cover at the back as we've only got William Kinniburgh and Stephen Craigan there and William is just 20.

"We have some very good young kids coming through here but they need a bit of time to fulfil their promise."

Well will have to turn round a poor recent record at Rugby Park if they are to get anything out of today's game.

Butcher added: "We didn't score against them last season so it's up to my players to end this and notch up goals and a victory and put that right.

"But Killie had a great result last week at Aberdeen so it's going to be difficult again."

Meanwhile, Well have denied they have opened negotiations to sell the club. A spokesman said: "There has been an expression of interest but it has not gone any further than that."
