Football: BRADFORD COUNT THE COST AS CARBONE DEAL COLLAPSES.

Byline: LEE WEST

BENITO Carbone's surprise move to Middlesbrough fell through yesterday after hitting a pounds 4million wages hitch.

Boro's bid to boost their Premiership survival chances by swooping for the Italian front-man failed to beat the transfer deadline.

He wanted a three-year contract but Boro were prepared to offer only a one-year deal - a difference of around pounds 4m.

Carbone still has three years left on his Bradford City contract at pounds 40,000-a- week and, though he was prepared to take a small cut in wages, could not reach agreement with Boro.

Carbone and his agent Giovanni Branchini held lengthy talks with Boro chairman Steve Gibson yesterday after the Bantams agreed to let him go on a free transfer.

City are desperate to remove the 29-year-old from their wage bill but now it will cost them another pounds 400,000 until the end of the season.

They are hoping that Carbone will then complete a move back to Serie A This article is about the Italian football league. For other uses, see Serie A (disambiguation).

Bids for Barcelona's Dani and PSG's Brazilian striker Christian failed. And Boro discussed a move to take Fabrizio Ravanelli Fabrizio Ravanelli (born December 11, 1968) is a former Italian football player.
