JEAN-ALAIN Boumsong is set to be sidelined for several weeks with a fractured skull - but it won't affect his move to Rangers.

Boumsong suffered an horrendous injury during Auxerre's goalless draw with Bastia on Saturday. The defender fractured an eye socket during an horrific second half clash and may now require an operation.

But Boumsong's summer transfer to Rangers has not been put in jeopardy by the sickening injury.

Boumsong's agent Willie Mackay said: "Jean-Alain has been injured. He was concussed during the game and is in hospital but there are no problems. With regard to his move to Rangers, that will still go ahead as planned. It is already signed and sealed."

Boumsong, who has signed a pre-contract agreement with Alex McLeish's side, said: "I took a huge blow in the face.

"I'm suffering from a fracture of my left eye socket. I had to spend the night in hospital in Bastia, and I had a scan and an X-ray. They confirmed the break, and I have a small cranial trauma and a big headache.

"I am not at the peak of my form right now!"
