Football: Ashdown vows to get best of Wester.

SANDER WESTERVELD Sander Westerveld (born October 23, 1974) is a Dutch football player born in Enschede, the Netherlands. His position is goalkeeper and he currently plays for Sparta Rotterdam. Career information
His first professional match was for the Enschede club FC Twente in 1994.
 has been warned he faces a fight to become Portsmouth's No.1 goalkeeper.

Former Liverpool star Westerveld, 30, hopes to revive his Premiership career after joining Portsmouth on a free transfer from Real Mallorca last month.

But he was yesterday warned not to expect to walk straight into the team, by Pompey's current No.1, Jamie Ashdown.

Ashdown, 24, who kept veteran Shaka Hislop Neil Shaka Hislop (born 22 February 1969) is a former professional football goalkeeper. Club career

After graduating from St. Mary's College in Trinidad, Hislop earned a scholarship to play college soccer at Howard University in the United States
 out of the side last season, said: "Whoever comes in, comes in. Hopefully I will knock them off and keep the No.1 jersey for myself, just like I did against Shaka.

"Sander will be good competition and this season is going to be a challenge."

Ashdown made 21 appearances for Pompey last season following a summer move from Reading.

He added: "I never expected to be where I am now. Hopefully I will be starting the season as No.1. I've had the shirt in training."

Ex-Dutch international Westerveld said: "Jamie is a good young keeper but I want to be No.1."
