Football: Ashby: I want a Stafford victory.

Byline: By Alan Poole

THE FIRST result Roger Ashby Roger Ashby (born September 12 1947 in England) has an impressive record as both player and manager. He made over 600 appearances for Kettering Town before starting a successful managerial career at Irthlingborough Diamonds, Rushden Town, Rushden & Diamonds, Bedford Town, Grantham  will check this afternoon is the FA Trophy The Football Association Challenge Trophy is an English football competition for clubs playing in levels 5-8 of the English football league system (steps 1-4 of the National League System)  tie between Woking and Stafford Rangers Rapidly deployable airborne light infantry organized and trained to conduct highly complex joint direct action operations in coordination with or in support of other special operations units of all Services. .

And he will be delighted if it's the visitors who have booked their place in the last four.

Rangers are currently eight points clear of Ashby's Nuneaton Borough at the head of the Nationwide North table and odds-on favourites to secure an automatic place in the Conference.

But although Boro's best chance now seems to be clinching second spot ahead of Northwich Victoria (six points adrift but with two games in hand) Ashby has not given up hope of snatching the title.

And he would therefore be delighted if Rangers are distracted by the prospects of a big day out at Upton Park Coordinates:

on May 14. "I'd love them to go all the way," he said. "All we can do is win as many games as we can and try to put a bit of pressure on Stafford. They've been incredibly consistent this season and are obviously in the driving seat but a couple of defeats could make all the differ ence. It would certainly be no bad thing from our point of view if they win today and go into the home and

away semifinals because all sorts of things can happen when you get a build-up of fixtures in the last month of the season. That can put an awful lot of stress on players."

Nuneaton and Northwich both suffered dramatic slumps in league form after making national headlines in the FA Cup but Ashby is grateful to have those extra points in the bag.

"Northwich dipped like us," said Ashby, "but they will be determined to get their focus back and pounce on any mistakes we make. From here on in, every point will be vital."

Borough travel to Lancaster today while Northwich are at home to bottom-but-one Hednesford. On Tuesday, Northwich use one of their games in hand on Borough when they host Stalybridge Celtic and, next Saturday, they go to rock-bottom Vauxhall Motors. Borough entertain Hucknall and Stafford go to Workington.
