Speaking ahead of the visit of Manchester City, Goodison boss David Moyes David William Moyes (b. April 25, 1963 in Glasgow, Scotland) is a football manager and former player. He is currently the manager of Everton F.C.. He has twice been named, in 2003 and 2005, as the 'League Managers' Association manager of the year', and is one of the younger  said: "Maybe there has been an element of Mikel trying too hard to live up to his reputation this season. He has been in and out a little.

"He is the kind of player we will need during the second half of the season - we need him to become a catalyst.

"Perhaps he's been a little too elaborate, but we all know what he can do, and he has just got to get down to working hard, and trying to find his best form for what is to come.

"He has great ability and to that he has added the work rate of British players after performing in the Premier League, and that is why I say he is a bit special. But maybe he needs to remember that and settle down. He's an important player, and we have missed him in recent weeks."

Moyes believes that the midfielder has the potential to become one of the best players in the Premier League, and is looking to the Spaniard to return from a three-game suspension to show what he is made of.

"Last season we asked him to add goals to his game and he did that. This season hasn't been so good, he only has one from open play, and he knows that is an area that he should be looking to improve," Moyes said.

"He has a big part to play over the second part of the season, because he is a very influential player. He knows he can step up, and we are looking for him to do that."
