CHESTER City slipped back into their defensive lethargy on Saturday and the problems conspired to inflict the club's eighth defeat in nine outings.

The alarm bells are now beginning to ring at the Deva Stadium, as City slip nearer to the relegation zone.

Saturday's defeat saw the side lose shape and commitment after conceding the first goal - a sure sign confidence is low.

City's squad needs freshening up and with the transfer window due to close tomorrow night, it's going to take some swift action by manager Keith Curle to bring in quality additions.

Chester are still awaiting a response from Hull City following their six figure bid for midfielder Kevin Ellison. Today they face a Blackburn Rovers XI in a behind-closed-doors friendly when prospective signings will be given trials.

One of those players is Crewe defender Mark Roberts, while it is understood a left back will also be under consideration.

County won the match courtesy of two penalties gifted to them by basic errors.

The first came on 65 minutes when Luke Dimech needlessly handled on the edge of the area. Julien Baudet dispatched the spot kick.

The second came six minutes from time when Dave Artell clumsily brought Eugene Dadi down.

Dadi sent Stefan Gillet the wrong way with his penalty after Artell was given a straight red card.

A furious Keith Curle said: "Our central defenders are committing too many basic errors. They are professional footballers and I expect better.

"There will be new faces at this club in the next few days. The positions I am looking to strengthen are a left back, left side of midfield and two central defenders. I have a few irons in the fire."
