Football: Ambrose cream of the crop after cup win; I Zingari League.


ST AMBROSE are the toast of the league after lifting the LCFA Saturday Intermediate Cup with a hard fought 2-1 midweek win over Old Xaverians 'A'.

Tony Mc Kevitt opened the scoring for the Speke-based side but Old Xaverians fought backwell to equalise through Robbie Povey.

Substitute Andy Green Wing Commander Andy D Green OBE BA RAF (born 1962), a British RAF F-4 Phantom and Tornado F3 pilot and Officer Commanding Operations Wing at RAF Wittering, is the current holder of the land speed record and the first person to break the sound barrier on land.  grabbed the plaudits with a superb late goal which sealed a memorable win for St Ambrose.

In the Premier Division, reigning champions Old Xaverians kept up the pressure on leaders NELTC with a 2-0 home win over Quarry Bank.
