Byline: By Chris Lepkowski

ALBION have made a renewed bid to sign Czech goalkeeper Michal Danek as veteran Dean Kiely Dean Lawrence Kiely (born October 10 1970 in Salford, England) is an Irish goalkeeper, currently playing for West Bromwich Albion. He won eight caps for the Republic of Ireland, but was usually on the bench as their substitute 'keeper.  extended his Hawthorns stay by another 12 months.

It has emerged the Baggies made a fresh undisclosed cash offer for the Viktoria Plzen star on Friday.

The Czech top-flight club held lengthy talks with Danek last night and will decide whether to accept Albion's bid within the next 48 hours.

The Baggies initially wanted to take Danek on loan but Plzen were unwilling to grant him a temporary move.

Ondrej Chovanec, Danek's agent, has revealed the two clubs are now close to a deal, claiming that Albion have made a 'very significant' offer.

"Plzen received an offer from West Bromwich West Bromwich (brŭm`ĭj, –ĭch, brŏm`wĭch), city (1991 pop. 146,386), Sandwell metropolitan district, W central England.  on Friday," Chovanec told the Birmingham Mail The Birmingham Mail is a tabloid newspaper based in Birmingham, UK but distributed around Birmingham, The Black Country, Solihull, Warwickshire and parts of Worcestershire and Staffordshire. .

"The contract was then translated and I would hope there could be a decision as early as today or tomorrow.

"I am confident that this deal will happen before the end of the week because Plzen are going to Turkey to a training camp on Friday and will want a speedy conclusion.

"It is not my place to reveal the offer but it is a big and significant offer which I believe Plzen will want to accept.

"Michal is very excited that things are now moving along."

Even so, manager Tony Mowbray Tony Mowbray, (born November 22 1963), is a former professional football player and the manager of West Bromwich Albion. Playing career

is philosophical about his chances of signing Danek, who has made 61 appearances for Plzen since moving to the club from Banik Ostrava two years ago.

"We're not worried because we have goalkeepers at the club and we're forever trying to improve every position if we can and create competition," he said.

"If it doesn't happen then it's not the end of the world or a crisis. If anything does develop I would imagine it'll develop early this week."

The latest twist in the Danek saga came just a day after 37-year-old Kiely signed a new one-year deal.

The Albion No.1's 18-month contract was due to run out this summer but he has now committed his future to the club until June 2009.
