RANGERS' future in the UEFA Cup is on the line after crashing 1-0 to AZ Alkmaar last night.

Alex McLeish's men may need a point from their last Group F clash with Auxerre on December 15 to reach the next round.

Rangers went to Holland look-ing to make it 17 games without defeat and book their place in the last 32.

But AZ proved too strong and a first-half goal from Danny Landzaat clinched the points.

Rangers were denied what seemed a clear penalty with 10 minutes to go when Barry van Galen handled inside the box.

In--form Nacho Novo also blew a golden chance just before half-time when he was through on keeper Henk Timmer and missed.

Stephen Hughes saw a header cleared off the line late on but the SPL leaders were not at their best.
