Football: Ronaldo's red card reprieve.

CRISTIANO RONALDO will not be suspended for Manchester United's first game of the 2004-05 season after his sending- off against Aston Villa last month was reduced to a caution.

The Portuguese winger, who starred for United in their 3-0 FA Cup final win over Millwall, was sent off by referee Rob Styles for two bookable offences at Villa Park as the Old Trafford side eventually ended up with only nine men on the field.

Styles has now rescinded the youngster's first booking for diving, but a yellow card for time-wasting still stands.
