Football: Mariners cruise to away win; Wakefield and Emley ...0 Marine ..............2.

THE Mariners made the perfect start to their Uni-Bond League Premier Divisioncampaign as they came away from Wakefield with three comfortable points.

The game was only seven minutes old when Nicky Young fired in a free-kick from just outside Emley's penalty box.

Keeper Danny Trueman could only parry and Lee Parle was in the right place to tuck the ball away It was much of the same in the second half as Marine's back four stood firm, leaving Andy Ralph a spectator.

On 55 minutes the home team were indebted to Nicky Wood for a goalsaving block from Kissock. With his first touch, Aaron Rey was through on goal but Trueman made a comfortable save. Then Darren Brookfield was put through and again Trueman stood firm.

Two minutes from the end, Paul Byrne struck a 20-yard shot into the bottom left-hand corner of Trueman's goal to seal a deserved victory for the Mariners.

Only 107 people, the lowest Premier attendance of the day, saw the game.
