Football: Madrid mad for Macca.

STEVE McManaman has been given 24 hours to sign a pre-contractual agreement with Spanish giants Real Madrid or they will pull the plug on any proposed move for the Liverpool star.

Madrid are fuming with McManaman after opening negotiations nine months ago and offering the England star, who is out of contract at the end of the season, a pounds 1.5million signing-on fee and wages of pounds 55,000 a week.

But so far McManaman has refused to sign and Madrid have finally snapped, fearing they may be upstaged by Barcelona or an Italian club.

Barcelona have already tabled a bid to rival Madrid's and are prepared to throw in additional bonuses, a luxury penthouse and a top-of-the-range sports car.
