Football: History jibe a foreigner to the truth.

AMONG the many whinges about Fabio Capello Fabio Capello (born June 18, 1946 in San Canzian d'Isonzo, Gorizia) is an Italian football manager and former professional player who most recently coached Real Madrid. , the one that's tickled me most is the idea that England is "lowering itself" and "insulting the history of one of the world's top nations" by bringing in a foreign coach.

Really? Well let's look around Europe at some other big countries currently run by foreigners. Portugal (coached by a Brazilian), Russia (Dutchman) and Greece (Ger - man).

Now ask yourself what sets us apart from those countries? I'll tell you.

All of those nations have played in a European Championships final. Five times between them. And two of them have won it.

Unlike England, who have never made it to a final in the competition's entire 48-year history.

So remind me. How are we lowering ourselves? And where is the history to insult in·sult
