is set to appeal against the longest suspension in Scottish football history, but if unsuccessful, he may retire.

Bowman was given a total of five red cards for abusive comments as he was sent off by referee Alan Gemmell against Stranraer last week.

And with his previous poor disciplinary record, it all added up to a 17-match ban for the 37-year-old.

If his appeal fails, he is expected to be out of action until February next year.

But Bowman said: "I'll try to appeal but if I'm not successful, I'll seriously think about quitting.

Boss Neil Cooper said: "We are all shocked and we will certainly be meeting to discuss an appeal.

"Dave is not a dirty player. He did not injure To interfere with the legally protected interest of another or to inflict harm on someone, for which an action may be brought. To damage or impair.
