Food aid for the elderly.


CARE workers are offering older people more choice of meals.

Kirklees Kirklees is a metropolitan borough of West Yorkshire, England. It has a population of 390,000 and includes the settlements of Batley, Birstall, Cleckheaton, Dewsbury, Heckmondwike, Holmfirth, Huddersfield, Marsden, Meltham, Mirfield and Slaithwaite.  Council's Meals on Wheels n. 1. A program that delivers hot meals to persons, such as the elderly or disabled, who are confined to their homes and unable to cook for themselves; also, the meals thus delivered. Such programs are usually conducted by governmental or charitable organizations.  service, which is used by fewer than 50 people a day, will end in September.

The council's cabinet member for adults, Clr Shabir Pandor, said: "We know that meals are sometimes not eaten, either because the menu for that day is not to the person's choosing or because they do not feel like eating when the food is delivered."

Clr Pandor said the Meals on Wheels service was being replaced by a more flexible system.

He said: "Following an assessment, some people choose to have fresh food prepared by the home carers while others prefer them to heat up food prepared by their families.
