Food Emporium takes Trump Palace retail.

The A&P's upscale Food Emporium inked a deal with Donald J. Trump to take over the entire retail space at Trump Palace condominium last Thursday night.

The Third Avenue store's 25,000 square feet will make it the largest two-level Food Emporium in the City of New York. They are insisting, Trump said, on calling it the Food Emporium at Trump Palace.

"The name is hot as a pistol," he said, "it has become so hot again that Trump Palace is 83 percent sold - the casinos are one, two, and three in Atlantic City with the Taj number one again."

Louise Sunshine, CEO of The Sunshine Group and the exclusive marketing and sales agent for Trump Palace, said: "The Trump name has really come back and it's very important to the buyers."

She said the Food Emporium deal was a "welcome addition and a great plus" for the building. Sales activity in the building, she said, is "incredible" with the condominium units selling for more than $1,000 per square foot. The highest sale in the last couple of months was $960 per square foot for one of the penthouses.

"Donald made this deal himself," she said "All by himself. In his focused, determined, relentless way."

The Food Emporium at Trump Palace will have a sales area of 15,200 square feet with storage and preparation areas comprising the remainder. Bill Vitulli, vice president of government and community affairs for parent company A&P, said this Food Emporium will be "the cream of the crop."

As for Plaza Hotel, the name of its owner - "Donald J. Trump presents" - has been quietly inserted into the ads for the tony establishment.

Trump said he liked the new ads for the New York City Plaza Hotel because they are "kind of show-bizzy, like theater - like |Cecil B. DeMille presents.'"

"Everybody who is anybody gets married there," he continued, referring to the recent Eddie Murphy nuptials and three others - "other than mine" - that will soon take place at The Plaza.

As for the Food Emporium at Trump Palace, when asked if they will sell his books there, the developer quipped, "They'll sell anything I tell them to, other than diapers."
