Following the paths of pioneers.Founded as Black Women in Publishings 25 years ago, Black Americans in Publishing (BAIP BAIP Basic Accident Investigation Procedures ) supports the advancement of black professionals employed in the industry and nurtures those seeking entry. The founders (see listing at left, below picture) were imaginative black women who bonded in the late 1970s to gel their due in all sectors a vibrant but exclusionary industry. Today too few blacks in the industry reap the financial or career benefits of the increasing black consumer dollars being spent on books. Today, BAIP is a nonprofit networking organization open to all who have a dedicated interest in book publishing. Its challenge is to secure positions of power, so more black executives have a say on bottom-line editorial matters, book runs, production and publicity budgets. BAIP also works to achieve these objectives through coalition building and mentoring. Members share information, learn from one another, and encourage young folks to commit to publishing as a career choice.
