Manufacturing company continues to expand product line with an emphasis on customer service

Mining Technologies International continues to expand their horizons, introducing innovative products while, still maintaining a focus on a commitment to meet the customer's needs through all stages of development.

Mining Technologies International (MTI), a Lively, Ont.-based company, is a major Canadian manufacturer and supplier of quality consumable and capital equipment for the domestic and international mining community. The company services mining operations from branch offices in: Bathurst, N.B., Montreal and Val d'Or, Que., Thompson, Man.; Edmonton, Alta., Denver, Colo. and Elko, Nev.

The international market is covered by a dealer network of 36 companies operating world wide.

MTI is the only full-service supplier of underground mining equipment headquartered in North America; the other two main suppliers being Swedish owned.

MTI's focus is to offer its customers total solutions for efficiency and cost-effectiveness at all stages of the development and production cycles of the underground mining industry.

High-quality, consumable drilling products are also manufactured for surface mining, as well as raise-boring products for the safe and efficient opening of bored raises.

MTI's strength is its ability to provide: responsive, technologically advanced solutions by partnering with mine management. A recent result of this partnership program has been the agreement with Stillwater Mining Company in Montana, a company that is presently expanding its platinum and palladium operation.

MTI initially supplied over one hundred pieces of capital equipment, as well as raise boring consumables to the Stillwater operation. MTI is presently supplying an additional 11 pieces of equipment which will be delivered before July.

Innovations at MTI, however, are not restricted to the mine site. In response to the changing needs of the mining industry, MTI is designing and manufacturing capital products such as automated and computer equipment. The company has developed a software program for use on production equipment and has worked in collaboration with Inco Ltd. in order to enhance MTIs software programs to meet Inco's future equipment needs.

MTIs roots trace back to 1986 when Bob Lipic, president and chief executive officer, and two business partners purchased Drillex Industrial - a supplier of drilling equipment and drilling tools for the mining industry. The company at the, time held operations in Canada, United States and Australia and operated under the name Drilco Industrial Canada Inc. The name was changed to Drillex International Canada a year later.

In 1993, the company purchased a manufacturing plant in Australia, with similar production capabilities as: the. Lively, Ont.-based plant. Drillex later acquired Continuous Mining Systems, a Sudbury-based manufacturing operation, from Inco Ltd. This acquisition launched, the company forward into remanufacturing and repair of underground mining and highway cylinders and developing load haul units and underground trucks;

The company's name changed to Mining Technologies International following the purchase of Continuous Mining Systems.

Today, MTI still maintains its focus on improving customer service, improving designs and creating cost-effective products for its client base.
