Focus or Fucus?I was watching the Helen Degenerus show on TV last night. She makes me laugh with her laid back style, but last night she was in a bed running her show with a bad back. Man she must be in control of that ship. Anyways they had children on the show who invented things. One kid, who looked a little hyperactive, had invented this thing he called focus glasses. They were glass free classes with blinkers on the sides and ear plugs attached. I was watching the Helen Degenerus show on TV last night. Anyways they had children on the show who invented things. One kid, who looked a little hyperactive, had invented this thing he called focus glasses. In studies they have done in offices around the world the average concentration space of most people is 5 minutes. If nothing interrupts them after five minutes, they interrupt others. Phone calls, stapler, chat with a neighbor, remember something, write a note, send an email. This is very stressful. It means the only way to get things done is with some form of intense pressure and when the intensity of one distraction builds the intensity of all the other distractions has to built in order to get attention. So, offices where people can't concentrate and have no training in focus, are very turbulent and stressful. When you're out in the bush walking along, you tend to day dream. Sometimes you can walk a whole day and miss 90% of the scenery because you're so happy thinking about things. In this case our body is in the bush, our head is anywhere it wants to be. That's called the opposite to focus. Then, suddenly you hear some sound that is not pleasant, like the hiss of a snake or snarl of a dog and you're home. Everything in one place, shitting yourself. So, the squeaky wheel gets the oil. In my experience 99% of hyperactive child behavior and 99% of ADD in kids comes from homes where parents can't focus. One the cell phone talking to one person, feeling something else, cooking the dinner, worrying about the future, thinking about the past, listening to Tv and waiting for the washing machine to finish its cycle. The capacity to FOCUS is spiritual. It means to draw your attention to one thing at a time. Mind body and emotion. So you turn up. This is called presence. When you are thinking about something, aware of your feelings about it, holding a certain focus in your body about it, then you are there with it. The opposite to Focus is FUCUS. This means your head is in one place your body in another and your feelings relate to something else. I remember working with a lady who was leaning back in her chair, feeling distraught about her relationship and talking to me about an idea for my business. FUCUS. FOCUS is a habit, a spiritual habit. You learn it in many ways. One of those ways is pain. Nature is a naughty teacher, if you don't learn by concentration she teaches you through abdication. The sqeeky wheel gets the oil. If you don't give FOCUS to your relationship, then it squeaks, and your attention is drawn to it through pain. Same with your financials. If you don't FOCUS you'll end up with FUCUS. Finally, if you find yourself TIRED, feeling exhausted think FOCUS. Because the greatest consumption of life energy is in FUCUS. Feelings running, mind running, feet running, all in different directions. This is the opposite to the practice of spirituality which is simply the art of thinking, being and feeling about one topic at a time. Enjoy. |
