It is located km ( mi) west of the city of Red Deer along Highway 11 or Highway 11A. It is situated on the southeast edge of Sylvan Lake, a km ( mi) long freshwater lake, in Red Deer County. . The Sylvan Lake Gas Plant has been isolated and shut down, the fire has been extinguished and there are no injuries to report. The cause of the explosion is not yet known and no estimate of damage is available at this time.
