"Flying High" is an engaging children's book about an enterprising giraffe named Walter who decides to build and fly an airplane. When his turtle friend Sonny expresses an interest in helping and maybe flying along, Disregarding Sonny's feelings, Walter blithely dismisses his offer to help and his hurt feelings as well. When later during his flight he encounters danger in a storm, Walter realizes he may need some help from others, including his friend Sonny. Luckily Sonny holds no grudges and bravely swims to Walter's rescue after his plane crashes in the lake. Then Walter realizes the value of including others in his life and plans. The next plane he builds has room for his friend Sonny too. "Flying High" is a fine fable about learning to value the contributions of others as well as an entertaining story. Author Jorgen Stamp's playful illustrations tell the story even more fully. Appropriate for ages 4-8.
