Flyers get Mike York from Islanders

The Philadelphia Flyers acquired forward Mike York from the New York Islanders on Wednesday for center Randy Robitaille and a fifth-round pick next year.

Philadelphia general manager Paul Holmgren said York, a seven-year NHL veteran, would offer the Flyers offensive flexibility.

"He is a player who is a right-handed shot, can play center or right wing, and he gives us a little more versatility and a little more scoring," Holmgren said.

York, 28, has six goals and seven assists in 32 games for the Islanders this season.

Robitaille returns to the Islanders, where he spent the end of the 2002-03 regular season and played in five playoff games. Islanders GM Garth Snow said he expects Robitaille, 31, to help their power play.

"And while we acquire a player in Randy whose production is equal to Mike's, we also gain additional cap flexibility," Snow said.

Robitaille has five goals and 12 assists in 28 games after signing with the Flyers as a free agent in the offseason.
