The number of Lane County residents who have received a flu shot is lower than anticipated, said Betsy Meredith, a county Public Health nursing supervisor.

"We know there are several tens of thousands (of Lane County residents) in the high-risk category, and more than half of them have not been vaccinated," Meredith said.

Meredith guessed that part of the reason many Lane County residents did not seek earlier vaccinations was because they knew the initial supply received by local health care providers was low.

But the county now has 1,000 vaccines ready to administer to anyone hoping to avoid the flu. The cost for adults seeking treatment at Monday's clinic is $23.
