In total 10,000 snowdrops will be planted by Gateshead, North Tyne-side and South Tyneside councils in partnership with The Snowdrop snowdrop: see amaryllis.

The first 2,000 snowdrops will be planted at a ceremony tomorrow at 11am in Workers Memorial Garden in Saltwell Park, Gateshead. A second planting is at noon on October 31 at the Sir GB Memorial Hunter Hospital, Wallsend, and a third on November 3, 11 am at Lawe Top Roundabout, Lawe Road, South Shields.
