Sprint Customers Benefit from More Than $166.7 Million in Wireless Network Enhancements, Innovative Products and Services

MAITLAND, Fla. -- Sprint (NYSE:S) customers in Florida can do more with their wireless phones thanks to the company's aggressive efforts to enhance its networks and enable innovative products and services. Sprint has invested approximately $166.7 million so far this year in the State of Florida on network initiatives designed to enhance and improve coverage.

"Our customers want mobility and the ability to stay connected to family, friends and the office," said Jaime Jones, area vice president, Florida. "By investing in our networks, we're enabling our customers to do what they want and need to do, such as downloading music wirelessly, getting directions in an unfamiliar city, accessing the weather report before their child's soccer game or sending and receiving e-mail on the go, all at SprintSpeed."

So far this year, Sprint has added more than 300 cell sites throughout the state of Florida, providing customers with added coverage, network capacity and enhancements. The enhancements include greater availability of Sprint Mobile Broadband which enables Floridians to wirelessly download music, watch live TV, or use robust navigational tools to get around their communities.

A Better Wireless Experience

Sprint networks are performing at all time bests. Sprint is seeing double-digit decreases in blocked and dropped calls across its networks based on internal performance metrics. In fact, dropped and blocked call rates on the Nextel National Network surpassed national best-ever levels early in the first quarter of this year. Additionally, network availability and call quality have improved on the Nextel National Network.

Sprint is committed to maintaining and enhancing its networks, which offer the largest voice calling area, the fastest and largest national mobile broadband network* and the "gold standard" Nextel Direct Connect[R] (i.e. push-to-talk service) - providing its customers the ability to stay connected and do more on the go.

"Nextel Direct Connect continues to be a critical communications tool for our customers, especially those in the public sector including first responders," said Jones. "Our network initiatives enable these customers to get things done quickly. We plan to extend Nextel Direct Connect to new Sprint phones in early 2008, broadening the largest push-to-talk community even further."

The Sprint Mobile Broadband Network is the fastest and largest national mobile broadband network, reaching more than 212 million people across the country, more than 10,600 cities and 1,000 airports.

In April, Sprint announced the deployment of its mobile broadband network with higher-speed EV-DO (Evolution - Data Optimized) Revision (Rev.) A technology in much of Florida including Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville, Daytona Beach, Sarasota, Tallahassee, Fort Myers, Gainesville and many other communities. The enhanced technology became available in South Florida up through the Treasure Coast in January, 2007.

The Sprint Mobile Broadband Network provides customers fast access to e-mail, location based services, and Power Vision(SM) services, including Sprint TV and the Sprint Music Store - the nation's first over-the-air song-download service that allows customers to preview, purchase and manage music on the go - right from Sprint Power Vision phones. The Sprint Music Store is expected to continue its popularity with full song downloads now priced at 99 cents (with a Powervision plan) - the lowest price for over-the-air song downloads in the U.S.

EV-DO Rev. A provides users with expected average upload speeds of 350-500 kbps and download speeds of between 600 kbps and 1.4 mbps. The network upgrade enables customers to use richer applications and services as they become available, such as a new push-to-talk feature, wireless VoIP, high-speed video telephony, music on demand, video messaging, and large file uploads.
