Florida Keys Florida Keys, chain of coral and limestone islands and reefs, c.150 mi (240 km) long, extending from Virginia Key, S of Miami Beach, to Key West, and forming the southern extremity of Florida.  & Key West. . Starting from the Southeast corner of the state there are the Florida Keys (Key Largo, Islamorada, Marathon, Big Pine Key & the Lower Keys, & Key West). The entire destination has been designated a National Marine Sanctuary protecting the natural resources above and below water. One underwater attraction is North America's only coral barrier reef. Key Largo has many dive/snorkel operators to take you on a tour of the reef, including glass bottom boats. Nearby is Everglades National Park, which can be explored by canoe, hiking, biking or in an airboat air·boat

. In Islamorada, a visitor can enjoy the history of the region at one of three state parks. However, it is the excellent and wide variety of fishing that makes this the "Sport fishing Capital of the World". Crane Point Hammock hammock, suspended bed, usually of netting, canvas, or leather. The hammock and its name were introduced to Europeans by Christopher Columbus, who learned of them from Native Americans. , in Marathon, has numerous trails to explore and the Adderly House provides a glimpse into how the early settlers lived in the Keys. A sparsely inhabited rural region.
 of the Lower Keys is best explored by eco or kayaking tours. Otherwise a visit to Bahia Honda State Park, and a walk on the tidal flat, or a swim off the sheltered beach is a great way to take in the natural beauty of this district. Key West is full of various museums and attractions displaying the various people and their divergent interests that combined to form the cultural history of the island.
