TALLAHASSEE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 18, 2002

The Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence (FCADV FCADV Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence ) has signed its first corporate sponsor - Verizon Wireless Cellco Partnership, doing business as Verizon Wireless, owns and operates the second largest wireless telecommunications network in the United States, based on total wireless customers.  - in the effort to save its statewide domestic violence hotline 1. . The toll-free hotline, supports individuals who are in imminent danger by linking them to domestic violence shelters in their calling area.

"The FCADV must raise $100,000 in private and corporate donations in order to keep the hotline operating, and to continue to provide other emergency services emergency services Emergency care '…services …necessary to prevent death or serious impairment of health and, because of the danger to life or health, require the use of the most accessible hospital available and equipped to furnish those services'  to victims of domestic violence," said Robert Shroeder, president of the Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence (FCADV). "Now that Verizon has stepped up to the plate with $5,000, we hope other corporations will join in."

The statewide hotline handles more than 1,000 calls per month, 24 hours a day, offering support in English, Spanish and Creole. The hotline is an important tool to fight domestic violence and these sobering so·ber
