Business Editors/High Tech Writers

EVERETT, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 23, 2001

Florida's Natural Growers Florida's Natural Growers is an agricultural cooperative based in Lake Wales, Florida. It is currently owned by over 1,100 grower members.

Founded in 1933 as Florida Citrus Canners Cooperative, it took the name Citrus World
, of Lake Wales Wales, Welsh Cymru, western peninsula and political division (principality) of Great Britain (1991 pop. 2,798,200), 8,016 sq mi (20,761 sq km), west of England; politically united with England since 1536. The capital is Cardiff. , Fla., one of the nation's premier processors of citrus juices and products, has selected Intermec Technologies Corp. to provide automatic data collection equipment to the company's four locations.

Florida's Natural Growers, a cooperative of 12 grower organizations that represent 1,100 individual growers, made the decision to change to Intermec when upgrading obsolete equipment. "Florida's Natural Growers chose Intermec because of Intermec's breadth of product line and the advanced capabilities of its ADC (1) See A/D converter.

products and services, from wireless LANs and handheld computers to bar code scanners and printers," said Jim Paulson, senior manager, Information Technologies.

"We conducted an extensive search for the best equipment, and when it came time to make a choice about a complete solution, the decision was easy," Paulson said. "Intermec products have the state-of-the-art capabilities we need and the history of successful implementations and after-sale customer care we can rely on. We're not just buying equipment; we're investing in a data collection system that can propel our business to the next level. Best of all, Intermec builds in technology that grows with us. That protects our investment. We can utilize the same technology and equipment throughout our plants."

"Florida's Natural Growers ships millions of cases of juice annually. We operate out of dry, chilled and frozen warehouses in a climate where humidity levels often are more than 90 percent. That takes serious supply chain management and rugged equipment," said Jesse Westburgh, manager of warehousing and distribution for the consortium.

"Intermec takes its responsibility to Florida's Natural Growers -- and to all of our customers -- very seriously," said Dan Bodnar, director of Intermec's Data Capture Group. "That's why we make sure the systems we put together today are a good investment for tomorrow as well."

Florida's Natural Growers has selected systems comprised of Intermec 1553 bar code scanners, MobileLAN(TM) 2100 industrial-strength wireless access points, Intermec 2425 handheld computers, 2455 vehicle-mount computers and EasyCoder(TM) 3400 bar code printers.

The 2455 vehicle-mount computer features industrial casing for shock, temperature and environment protection and supports 2.4 GHz wireless communications wireless communications

. Its two-piece design allows operators to separate the display and keyboard or use as one unit.

The 2425 handheld computer, with its 2.4 GHz radio, is a rugged, cost-effective computer that offers flexible connectivity choices and easy integration, as well as a large, high-contrast display suitable for many environments. The EasyCoder 3400 printer is built for the toughest environments, with levels of versatility and features hard to find in comparable-class printers.

The MobileLAN 2100 access point is specifically designed to provide reliable wireless communications in industrial environments. The 1553 bar code scanner, also designed to withstand harsh environments, can scan bar codes at distances ranging from four inches to 35 feet.
