Florida's the key for ambitious north firms.Byline: By Rebekah Ashby Small businesses are being offered the chance to boost transatlantic business with a two-pronged approach to markets in the Americas. A trade mission, organised by UK Trade and Investment next month, takes in a popular business conference in Atlanta, Georgia, and a visit to Miami, Florida “Miami” redirects here. Small and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) in the North-East are being offered pounds 500 assistance towards the cost of participating in a choice of four trips, to one or both centres. It can be described as "greater Teesside" and consists of the four unitary authorities created by the breakup of the County of Cleveland in 1996: Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland, and Stockton-On-Tees along with , lead the mission. He said: "This is a great chance for North-East firms to attend a prime US business conference and take advantage of all the networking and other opportunities it offers, and to combine this with a visit to the most important single centre for trade between the US and markets in Latin America Latin America, the Spanish-speaking, Portuguese-speaking, and French-speaking countries (except Canada) of North America, South America, Central America, and the West Indies. and the Caribbean." The topics have been carefully selected to ensure relevant issues are addressed. "It is also an excellent opportunity for participants to utilise social events for networking and gathering of transatlantic expertise to gain contacts and information to advance their business." The mission will then move on to Miami for three days. There participants will be able to follow their own itinerary and make their own appointments. Mr Crosby said: "Over 55pc of trade from Latin America and the Caribbean passes through the sea and air ports of south Florida so it is not surprising that this region presents exciting opportunities for British business. "A North-East mission visited Miami in February and was very successful ( and this mission will follow up the momentum generated on that occasion and offer more firms the chance to identify new opportunities."
