Florence makes a silver splash; CANOEING BEIJING 2008.

BRITAIN'S David Florence defied the odds and a raging torrent to take slalom canoe silver in Beijing today.

"I am absolutely delighted. I put in a good final run there and in the pressure of a big final, it is the most exciting time to do it," said Florence.

"It was a bit nerve-wracking watching the guys follow. I was happy. I had done a good run and that was all that I could do.

"I would have loved the gold but I ended up with silver. A medal is what I have been after for the last four years."

There will contrasting emotions in the room Florence shares with Glasgow's Campbell Walsh Campbell Walsh (b. 26 November 1977, Glasgow) is a Scottish kayaker who won a Silver Medal in the K1 Single Class at the 2004 Olympics.

He also won a Silver at the 2004 European Championships in the K1 Team Event and was World Cup Champion the same year.
. A silver medalist in Athens four years ago, Walsh had high hopes of delivering Britain's third gold in the slalom canoeing, but a disastrous performance saw him finish last in the final run qualifier of the K1 class.
