John Edwin John Edwin (August 10, 1749 - October 31, 1790), English actor, was born in London, the son of a watchmaker. As a youth, he appeared in the provinces, in minor parts; and at Bath in 1768 he formed a connexion with a Mrs Walmsley, a milliner, who bore him a son, but whom he Widdowson said he could not believe it when he walked out of his flat and saw three pieces of carpet, which had covered his concrete landing for years, had vanished. The great-grandad said: "What's the world coming into when people take the carpet from under your feet? "I just had to laugh, it's unbelievable." Mr Widdowson, who lives in Ainsworth Way, last saw his carpet when he came out to collect his copy of the Gazette, which the paperboy had delivered as usual. He said: "I went in and read the Gazette, then an hour later I went out to lock up and check on my shed. But when I opened the door I saw something was missing and realised the carpet had all gone! "It was a lovely bit of carpet. It was just laid on the landing so that people wouldn't walk their mucky feet into the flat. "They left me the door mat though, so I suppose I should be grateful for that!" |
