MP Sir Alan Beith Alan James Beith (born April 20, 1943), is a British politician, and the Liberal Democrat Member of Parliament for Berwick-upon-Tweed. Early life Alan Beith was born in 1943 in Cheshire into a working class Conservative family. has just finished his latest tour in which he called in at 122 villages. He said many people who suffered badly in the major floods last September September: see month. had been further alarmed in July this year when properties narrowly escaped damage. Sir Alan said: "I have continued to work with the Environment Agency and other bodies to bring forward urgent short-term measures and to prepare plans for more extensive flood protection work as soon as possible." Other issues raised by people during the marathon tour included road and footpath maintenance, road safety and traffic speed through villages, problems affecting small businesses in the countryside and agriculture. Sir Alan said his constituents also have concerns about the administration of pensions, benefits and the Child Support Agency - as well as wind farms and nuclear power. A total of 150 people came to see him on the 900-mile tour. |
