Flooding fears lead to cannabis discovery.

A LANDLORD called to deal with flooding discovered a cannabis farm - inside his own rental property.

The unnamed owner went to the terraced house in John Street, Treforest, near Pontypridd, as the swollen River Taff threatened to burst its banks on Friday.

Earlier, he had unsuccessfully tried to call his tenant and tell him to stock up with sandbags to prevent water entering the house.

Desperate to avoid water damage, the landlord drove from Cardiff and tried to open the front door of the house.

When the door refused to open, he assumed a sandbag had been placed against it on the inside.

Eventually, he climbed through a bedroom window-and found more than 500 cannabis plants throughout the house with a compost bag blocking the front door.

Five bedrooms, two reception rooms and the bathroom were kitted out with industrial lighting and aluminium foil to maximise the harvest.

The landlord called police who took the plants away for analysis.

Inspector Andy Walbeoff said forensic scenes of crime officers carried out detailed examinations of the property.

No-one has been arrested.
