Flood risk as glaciers melt.

ANTARCTIC glaciers are melting twice as fast as they did in the 1990s,scientists warnedyesterday.

Those flowing into the Amundsen Sea alone are discharging 60 per cent more ice than they accumulate.

That is causing a 0.2millimetresa-year rise in global sea levels.

But it could trigger a five-metre rise if the West Antarctic Ice Sheet covering part of the continent melts.

Pennsylvania State University glaciologist Richard Alley said: 'We're not running for the hills but this is a wake-up call to getserious.'
