Flood risk as glaciers melt.


ANTARCTIC glaciers are melting twice as fast as they did in the 1990s,scientists warnedyesterday.

Those flowing into the Amundsen Sea alone are discharging 60 per cent more ice than they accumulate.

That is causing a 0.2millimetresa-year rise in global sea levels.

But it could trigger a five-metre rise if the West Antarctic Ice Sheet The West Antarctic Ice Sheet (WAIS) is the segment of the continental ice sheet that covers West (or Lesser) Antarctica, the portion of Antarctica west of the Transantarctic Mountains.  covering part of the continent melts.
