Flood of Missouri insurers applies for mold exemptions. (Briefing).


The Missouri Department of Insurance has received 25 to 30 documents this year from insurers trying to apply for mold exemptions, even though mold hasn't been a major problem in the state.

Some large insurers are asking for more than what the Insurance Services Office Insurance Services Office, Inc. If the insurers that filed for mold exemptions follow the language of ISO, McConnell said, the Missouri department will approve the applications.

"In regard to mold, we want to make sure people don't lose what their existing rights are under law," McConnell said. "If people are losing benefits without getting premium reductions, that's important to us."
