Flood calendar 2008 launched.


A calendar to highlight flood risks in Wales Wales, Welsh Cymru, western peninsula and political division (principality) of Great Britain (1991 pop. 2,798,200), 8,016 sq mi (20,761 sq km), west of England; politically united with England since 1536. The capital is Cardiff.  has been launched.

With 2007 drawing to a close, the Environment Agency Wales Environment Agency Wales is an Assembly Sponsored Public Body. It is that part of the Environment Agency that covers an area corresponding approximately to Wales. The Regional divisions of the Environment Agency are based on the concept of catchment management and administrative  is raising flood awareness across Wales with its 2008 Flood Warning calendar. The calendar features paintings of rivers during the course of a year as seen through the eyes of local children.

Schools took part in a competition to design the calendar. The successful entrants won book tokens, along with a framed picture of their winning entries.

Emyr Jones, who is a team leader for the Flood Incident Management Team, said: "The bilingual bi·lin·gual

 calendars will be sent to homes, businesses, professional partners, and community councils in flood warning areas.

"We have set up a flood partnership with the local community and distribute these calendars to help provide them with useful information on what to do before, during and after a flood.

"By highlighting our free flood warning service, the calendars will increase general awareness of flooding issues in the area.

"Our flood warning calendar provides a handy reference of useful information and will help maintain awareness throughout 2008."
